Navigating aging and dementia care within our medical system is complex and many people become overwhelmed. Aging Life Care Consultants advise, coordinate, problem solve, and advocate for you to reduce stress and improve outcomes.
I am a Maryland and DC licensed clinical social worker specializing in geriatric care management with over 20 years of experience in medical, mental health, and managed care settings. I graduated from Smith College with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and Washington University in St. Louis with a Masters in Social Work (MSW) in mental health and family systems.
I offer a personalized approach to guide you through complex care decisions. Aging well isn't just about receiving care. It's also about being seen, supported, and empowered.
Similar to how an attorney is your advisor for legal matters, a geriatric care consultant is your navigator and advocate for tackling the complex issues of aging. Common situations that prompt clients or families to contact me include:
A dementia or other progressive condition is diagnosed - First, it's important to know that your life is not "over." I'll help you understand the diagnosis and anticipate what's ahead. We will discuss your goals and support system. Coordinating care, connecting you with legal/financial planning/aging resources, communicating with family members, making home visits, and problem solving as needs arise are often part of the planning.
Medical appointments are too complicated - I'll coordinate your providers and attend appointments with you.
Family members live far away - I'll make home visits, coordinate home care services, and communicate updates from providers.
Caregiving duties are consuming you - We'll discuss strategies for stress management together and identify available resources to alleviate and avoid burnout.
A surprise medical condition has created an overly burdensome task list, making it impossible to "catch up" with bills and appointments while trying to recover - In addition to monitoring for wellness, I'll advocate for you with doctors and insurance, schedule appointments, and coordinate home health.
If you find yourself in these or other difficult aging-related situations, I can help. We can discuss your concerns and questions during a free 20 minute consultation.
